Photo Challenge

Here you can discuss any information or questions you have about insulators that don't seem to fit properly in the other sections of this forum. As well as any other type of insulator that doesn't have a place on this forum, such as radio strains and spools

Photo Challenge

Postby cdnbeehive » Fri Apr 01, 2011 5:18 pm

I thought I would challenge the users of the forum to get photos of true oddities this year while out hunting.

There are no prizes involved, other than bragging rights :)

Basically it will work like this: Get a pic of something in my list and post it. It should be a new picture, and it should not be doctored. By doctored I mean digitally, or a staged photo where you have recreated one of my conditions without finding it "as-is".

So here's my list:

-An iron wire still strung in the air
-A Withycombe of any type on a pole
-A purple insulator on a pole
-A carnival glass insulator on a pole
-Any peice with a low book value over $50 on a pole
-A telephone insulator mounted anywhere

More suggestions are welcome.

Don't disclose exact locations, please.

Ok, I'll bite. This is from a few years ago but might still be there, I haven't checked in a while. A NECAN 143 (15 or 30) tallboy likely double threaded on a pole (!)
That should qualify as 'Any peice with a low book value over $50 on a pole'

Don't be fooled by the closeup, this is a fairly tall pole in an urban area with some dodgy looking electrical circuits in close proximity.

Just about forgot this one - 2 threadless on a pole with iron wire and low book value over $50!

Unfortunately, it looks like somebody just removed a carnivalized purple withycombe (used for an early telephone circuit) from the empty side block (!) ;)

Just having some fun..

Hey Chris M., I know where that tallboy pic was taken... we saw it too. Don't know if it's still there or not either, but I would guess yes, unless it's been broken in the meantime or the pole's been upgraded.

I thought you guys had seen that too. It's nice to see a piece like that still wired in. I'd like to get back and check it again some time. I was checking the date I took the picture, it was August of 2003 (!)
It must have been taken with my first digital camera, check out those pixels! I'd like to get back there with my current camera for some better shots.
