trade info

Postby 369reid » Tue Jul 24, 2012 10:58 pm

Hi, made a trade for this sign at our show this past weekend and know nothing about signs. Hoping for some/any info some of you sign collectors might be willing to offer. Sign measures 24" across and is 1/2" thick "pot metal". Thanks in advance.

Reid

That looks like a great go-with for a telephone collector. Sorry I can't give you any info about it , but maybee our eastern friends can help out.
How did the Edmonton show go? Any story's or pictures ? We all want to know.
See you in Merritt in 6 weeks Ok.

Take care

That is a really cool sign, and one that I've not seen before. I've got a small collection of telegraph and telephone signs, so I usually keep an eye out for them. It looks like something that would be put on a wooden door possibly, likely in a Central office type building. There is a bit of info on the wikipedia page - the maple leaves put the date of the design likely between 1922 and 1940:

It reminds me of the decoration on the doors of the Peterborough C.O.:

In my opinion you've got a rare sign there. Paul Axman would likely have some good input on this and Morgan Davis too as he used to have one of the best collections of telephone signs in the country.
